During the match 22 of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25, Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft of Sydney Thunder were involved in a nasty collision while attempting a catch on the run in the outfield of Cooper Connolly from Perth Scorchers, who had hit Lockie Ferguson’s delivery in the air. After colliding with each other, Sams and Bancroft were laid out on the ground for a few seconds before their teammates and the medical personnel arrived at the scene to give them urgent medical attention.
Before their unfortunate collision, Daniel Sams was running backwards in his attempt to take the catch, while Cameron Bancroft came around from the boundary rope. Upon receiving treatment on the ground, Bancroft was seen walking into the pavilion with a bloodied nose, while Sams was more worse for wear as he was placed on a medi-cab before both were taken to the hospital from the Optus Stadium in Perth.

Sydney Thunder defeated Perth Scorchers on final ball of match with Sherfane Rutherford's four
Following a brief interruption in play, Perth Scorchers’ innings began once again, and they managed to reach 177/4 in their allotted overs after a fiery fifty from Finn Allen at the top of the order, followed by Cooper Connolly’s well compiled 40 odd. Chris Green was the pick of the bowlers for Sydney Thunder, registering figures of 3/20 in his four-over spell, finding himself on a hat-trick at one stage.
In the run chase, David Warner and Matthew Gilkes scored 40s each, to put Sydney Thunder in a decent position to overhaul the 178-run target. But after a flurry of wickets in the second half of their innings, Sydney Thunder were in a tough spot before an exceptional innings of 39* runs in 19 balls from Sherfane Rutherford, including a four on the last ball of the 20th over from Andrew Tye, helped the visitors get over the line with four wickets in hand.
Despite the last ball defeat, Sydney Thunder are still firmly placed in second position in the BBL 2024-25 standings behind city rivals Sydney Sixers.
