Sydney Thunder registered a thrilling two-wicket win against Adelaide Strikers to kickstart their BBL 2024-25 campaign. Daniel Sams turned out to be a hero with his clutch innings of 42*(18) run to seal the deal for Sydney.
Batting first, Adelaide Strikers posted a total of 182/8 in their 20 overs. Opener Jake Weatherald got out after giving a flying start, scoring 40(19) runs. Apart from that, Jamie Overton top scored with an unbeaten 45*(35), while James Bazley also gave finishing touches with a quickfire 31(12) runs. For Sydney Thunder, Lockie Ferguson and Chris Green took 3 wickets each, while Tanveer Sangha put two in his bag.

Oliver Davies (23 off 19) and Sam Billings (29 off 26) took the innings further during middle overs but Sydney Thunder again started losing regular wickets and were reduced to 149/7 after 18 overs. Batting in the penultimate over by Llyod Pope, Sam Billings smashed consecutive sixes on the first two balls of the over before the bowler bowled a wide delivery. After that, Billings smashed a six and three fours in the next four deliveries and ended up getting 31 runs in an over, with only three runs needed off the last six balls. Despite losing a wicket on the first ball of the 20th over, Sydney Thunder managed to chase the target in 19.4 overs with two wickets in hand. Daniel Sams remained unbeaten on 42*(18) smashing four fours and three sixes.
