World number 4 Daniil Medvedev lashed out at a supervisor during his Monte Carlo Masters Round of 16 clash at the Monte Carlo Masters. On April 11, Thursday, the Russian locked horns with compatriot Karen Khachanov in the pre-quarterfinal round of the tournament. The incident seemingly took place before the second round's tie-breaker, where Medvedev was unhappy with a line call.
The Russian tennis ace lost his cool and lashed out at one of the officials for the wrong call. He was heard saying, “Who will take action? Yesterday the ball was out. It’s called in. This ball is out there. Who will take responsibility? It’s not my responsibility to referee the matches. It’s this guy in the glasses. He doesn’t need glasses because he doesn't see anything.” He added, “It’s 15-30 at 5-5. He should be out of the clay court circle. It’s the 2nd day in a row. Open your eyes. Open your freaking eyes. Do something. It’s out.”
Not only this but after the incident, the 28-year-old was also seen throwing his racquet. The tennis player was fined with a one-point penalty which allowed Khachanov go up 6-5 in the second set. The match saw Khachanov bringing down his counterpart 6-3, 7-5 to secure his berth in the quarterfinal stage for the first time.
On the other hand, both Medvedev and the umpire apologised to each other, while the official broadcaster Sky Sports also apologised to the tennis player. Earlier, the former world number 1 engaged in a heated confrontation with umpires during his second-round clash with Gael Monfils.
