Devdutt Padikkal pulled off a stunning one-handed catch to dismiss Prithvi Shaw in the ongoing Irani Cup 2024-25 clash. On October 1, Mumbai, the winners of the 2023-23 Ranji Trophy, clashed against Rest of India for the one-off Irani Cup. The match was played at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The match started with Rest of India captain Ruturaj Gaikwad winning the toss and inviting the rivals to bat first.
Rest of India got off to a favoured start as they got their first success on the first ball of the third over itself. Devdutt Padikkal pulled off a stunning one-handed catch to end Mumbai opener Prithvi Shaw’s short stay on the crease. Shaw got a thick edge off a Mukesh Kumar delivery, and the ball flew to the right of the man at the second slip. Padikkal dived to his right and plucked it out to give the Ranji Champions an early setback in the form of Prithvi Shaw. The batter was forced to return after scoring just four runs off seven deliveries.
Mukesh Kumar gets second success in form of Hardik Tamore
Shortly after Shaw’s wicket, Rest of India enjoyed their second success in the form of Hardilk Tamore. The Mumbai batter was caught out by Dhruv Jurel on the fourth ball of the third over. Mukesh delivered a fuller ball and Tamore played a loose shot and didn’t cover the line of delivery. Jurel, who was keeping the wickets, took a catch, and Kumar added another dismissal to his name. Hardik was forced to return after a three-ball duck.
Earlier during the toss, Mumbai skipper Ajinkya Rahane said, “You need to do well every session in day's cricket. We are ready. I spent two and a half months playing county cricket. Got some game time under my belt. Preparation wise, every one is ready.”
