The Rohit Sharma locked horns with Bangladesh in their solitary warm-up match ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on June 1 (Saturday). It was Team India, who had won the toss at the newly constructed makeshift venue and elected to bat first.

In their stipulated 20 overs, India posted 182/5 with Rishabh Pant scoring 32-ball 53 and all-rounder Hardik Pandya also coming out good with his unbeaten 40. In return, the side comfortably defended the total as they bundled out Bangladesh at 122/9 in 20 overs and eventually won by 60 runs. During this outing, what is a common sight in cricket matches these, a fan invaded the pitch to meet the Indian skipper.

The unanticipated incident unfolded when the Rohit Sharma-led side were fielding after putting 182 runs on the board earlier in the match. Moreover, this was the third time this year that a fan has broken the security protocol to meet Rohit Sharma, previously being during the home Test series against England and then in Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2024 opener.

What followed was a generous act by the 36-year-old when he urged the New York Police to “go easy on him”. Thereafter the fan was escorted out of the field by the police officials, video of which is doing rounds on social media.

Speaking of the Rohit Sharma-led Team India, they are placed in Group A, alongside arch-rivals Pakistan, Ireland, Canada and co-hosts USA for the T20 World Cup 2024. Before they take on Pakistan in the highly anticipated clash of the tournament on June 9 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, the Men in Blue will kick start their campaign against Ireland on June 5 at the same venue.
