On Sunday, December 1, Fiorentina’s Serie A match against Inter Milan witnessed distressing scenes when a player named Edoardo Bove, Fiorentina midfielder collapsed on the field. The incident occurred just 16 minutes into the game with the scorecard yet to be opened by either teams at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence.

However, the match was abandoned shortly afterwards with the Fiorentina midfielder being rushed to the hospital for further treatment. Although, Bove’s teammates immediately called in for medical help, both team players surrounded the 22-year-old before he was stretched off and referred to Careggi Hospital in Florence.

According to the joint statement released by the football club and the hospital, “Initial cardiological and neurological tests have ruled out severe damage to his central nervous and the cardio-respiratory systems.” They also revealed that he is under intensive care and the 22-year-old’s condition will be reassessed “in next 24 hours”.

Seeing the incident, several footballers along with clubs took to social media to express their solidarity in the matter. David de Gea wrote “God please” whereas Bove’s parent club Roma also shared a message reading, “One of our own. We’re with you. Forza Edo!”

It is to be noted that this is not the first incident of the year in Serie A. Earlier in April, Roma defender Evan Ndicka collapsed on the field during his side’s match against Udinese.
