Different clips regarding this incident went viral on social media which sparked controversy.
As quoted in Essentially Sports, Floyd Mayweather was inside a jewellery shop when an individual approached him and asked him regarding his support for Israel. Responding to that individual, Mayweather reportedly said, “Proud to support the Jews.” The response didn't sit well for one individual as he reportedly attacked the former boxer leading to a physical confrontation.
I’m perfectly fine: Floyd Mayweather reacts to alleged confrontation in London
Reacting to this incident, Floyd Mayweather shared a post on his social media where he cleared that none of the individual attacked or touched him in anyway. The 47-year-old also mentioned that some jealous people have created false stories.
“Let me set the record straight…there’s no truth to the rumors going around. I wasn’t punched or touched in any way. What you’re seeing is just my security doing their job to keep things under control. I was in the UK for a quick 48-hour stop to do some shopping, and unfortunately, people let jealousy and negativity fuel false stories. I’m perfectly fine, and there’s really nothing more to it,” Mayweather wrote on his social media.
However, according to some reports, people still believe that Floyd Mayweather’s open support for Israel in the ongoing situation could be a reason for the confrontation. The former five-division world champion has visited Israel several times and also called it a 'home away from home'. The retired boxer has also started an initiative Mayweather-Israel Initiative a few days before the alleged spat. The initiative is to give birthday presents to every orphaned child in Israel.
