Indian fast bowler Akash Deep slammed a boundary, helping India avoid follow-on during the third Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. On Day 4 of the thrilling Test at The Gabba, Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja came up with a staggering 77 off 123 deliveries, which was later combined with partnership between Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah, helping India avoid a follow-on a rain-hit Day 4. India posted a total of 252 runs for nine wickets when stumps were drawn a bit early due to bad light. 

After deciding to bowl first, India found themselves teetering, as the top-batting order crumbled to a lethal Aussie pace attack. With KL Rahul departing after scoring 84, veteran spinner Ravindra Jadeja took steering in his hands and posted much-needed 77 runs. However, it was the unbeaten 39-run stand between Indian pacers who helped the side cross the 246-run mark to avoid a follow on. As Akash Deep hit a boundary against Pat Cummins and India crossed the follow-on limit, head coach Gauatm Gambhir jumped in excitement. Batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma celebrated with a thunderous roar and exchanged high-fives. The bowler also celebrated by thumping the badge on his chest.

Right on the second delivery after helping India avoid the follow on, Akash Deep hit a massive six, adding to Aussie skipper Pat Cummins’ frustration. The Indian bowler sent Cummins delivery sailing over deep mid-wicket with a clean strike. Former skipper and modern-day batting icon Virat Kohli was left absolutely awestruck by the beauty of the monstrous shot. 

While India still trail by 193 runs, the umpires called stumps due to poor lighting. By the end of the day’s play, Akash was unbeaten 27 along with Jasprit Bumrah, who scored 10 runs.
