The Australian women’s cricketer, Georgia Wareham, made an incredible save on the boundary rope at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, during the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 match. Although the Royal Challengers Bangalore star’s fielding effort was top-notch, it didn’t stop the Delhi Capitals from taking charge of the first half of the game with the bat.
It was the first ball of the 11th over from Nadine de Klerk of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, a slower delivery in the slot area, which the Delhi Capitals batter Alice Capsey got underneath before launching it high in the night sky. After a substantial air time, the ball landed well into the grandstand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Just a couple of deliveries later in the same over, Shafali Verma also launched a high ball in the same area, but it didn’t have the timing or the elevation like the Alice Capsey shot. Despite that, the ball was all but certain to clear the boundary rope on the full until Georgia Wareham pulled off a sensational save to keep the Delhi Capitals batter down to two runs.
Shafali Verma and Alice Capsey shared an 82-run stand for the second wicket after the fall of their captain Meg Lanning’s wicket early in the powerplay. Before losing her wicket, Verma, who had faced 31 balls in her innings, completed her fifty with three fours and four maximums, while Capsey got out for 46 off 33 after smashing four fours and two maximums.
Ultimately, Delhi Capitals finished their innings at 194/5 against Royal Challengers Bangalore after a late flourish from Marizanne Kapp and Jess Jonassen with each of them registering quick-fire 30s to their name.
