In the second T20I of the three-match series between New Zealand and Sri Lanka at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, Glenn Phillips smashed a monster six on the bowling of Maheesh Theekshana, and the ball landed on the roof of the commentary box. While Glenn Phillips’ innings didn’t last for long, New Zealand still put up an above par total of 186/5 on the board before yet another impressive Jacob Duffy spell helped the hosts defeat Sri Lanka by 45 runs.
On the third ball of the 13th over, Glenn Phillips cleared the front leg and freed his arms to smash a full delivery from off spinner Maheesh Theekshana straight back over the sight screen as the cameras lost track of it. The ball ultimately found its way on the roof of the commentary box, and one of the experts on the live broadcast was quick to say that it felt like the ball was about to come straight through the window where they were seated.

Jacob Duffy stars with ball as New Zealand beat Sri Lanka in second T20I
Glenn Phillips scored 23 off 16 with two fours and one six, while the quick-fire 40s from less experienced players in Tim Robinson, Mark Chapman, and Mitchell Hay, allowed the Blackcaps to get past 180 runs in their innings. During the run chase, Sri Lanka were in a good position going into the second half of their innings, just like the first T20I, but they lost the plot completely in the latter stages with the bat after being 127/3 in 15 overs.
Within the space of 4.1 overs, Sri Lanka lost seven wickets for just 14 runs, to get bowled out for 141 runs, which meant that they allowed New Zealand to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Jacob Duffy, who had picked up three wickets in four balls in the first T20I, got the better of set batters Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera before dismissing the likes of Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana, to register figures of 4/15 in his four-over spell.
Captain Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry also picked up a couple of wickets each for New Zealand during key stages of the second T20I, to help the team earn the series victory.
