New Zealand batter Glenn Phillips lost his cool after getting out in a horrible manner in the Lanka Premier League 2024. The Kiwi batter who is a part of the Colombo Strikers, was furious after his unfortunate dismissal in the Eliminator against the Kandy Falcons at R Premadasa Stadium on Thursday, July 18. After getting out, the batter was seen throwing his bat thrice on his way back to the pavilion after having faced just one ball.
The run-out occurred on the last ball of the third over when Phillips walked to the crease after opening batter Mohammad Wasim was dismissed by Wanindu Hasaranga. Angelo Mathews bowled a length ball and the Kiwi guided it towards the cover. A fielder standing there threw the ball back to the wicketkeeper. While Phillips started running, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, standing on the other end, didn’t move.
The cover fielder threw the ball to the wicketkeeper who dismissed the bails, forcing Phillips to walk back to the pavilion. After the dismissal, the 27-year-old batter threw the bat in the air, again near the dug out before smashing it near the dressing room. It is to be noted that Phillips was Colombo’s leading run scorer in the LPL 2024.
He scored a total of 252 runs in nine games that he played, with a strike rate of 140.78, which includes three half-centuries. The Eliminator resulted in the Falcons beating their counterparts by two wickets to advance to the LPL 2024 Qualifier 2.
