Pakistan batter Haider Ali was involved in a hilarious stumping decision in the Vitality Blast fixture between Birmingham Bears and Derbyshire. Playing for the Falcons, Ali opened in the second innings as the Bears posted a massive 203-run total. After posting a massive 95-run first-wicket partnership, Ali tried to take on Danny Briggs in the 11th over.

After fending away the first ball, Haider Ali danced down the ground and trapped far away from the crease with a wide delivery by Briggs. Birmingham keeper Alex Davies failed to collect the ball initially when Haider casually attempted to get back. This lazy approach gave Davies another opportunity to effect the stumping, who swiftly took off the bails and left Haider in disbelief.

But Haider Ali’s wicket didn’t hinder Derbyshire’s chances as their captain Leus du Plooy launched a massive onslaught and smashed 66 in 25 balls with four fours and five sixes. This brilliant knock helped the Falcons register a crucial six-wicket victory. Reacting to this win, Leus du Plooy spoke about how he personally needed this knock after struggling over the last few games.

He also talked about how the team put forth a complete effort to register a crucial victory. While speaking to Derbyshire, the South African said, “Personally, I needed that after a run of low scores. From the team’s perspective, it felt like we needed a win today to stay in the hunt so it was great to get over the line.”

“It was a great example of the old saying that if you take it deep then anything can happen. Our openers gave us the perfect start and that’s something we identified from their innings when they probably didn’t take it on enough in the first ten overs,” he further added.
