Former India international Anjum Chopra was seen consoling Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur after India’s gut-wrenching loss in the T20 World Cup semi-final. The Indian Women’s team was knocked out by Australia, who inflicted a thrilling five-run victory. Kaur was carrying Team India to a famous win before she got out in a bizarre manner, followed by a collapse by the Indian team.

After her dismissal, Team India lost its grip on the game and failed to chase the 173-run target. In the post-match interview, Harmanpreet Kaur came out wearing glasses as she didn’t want her country to see her in tears. So, after the required media activities, Anjum Chopra went on towards Kaur and comforted her.

In a video posted by ICC, Chopra is seen hugging Harmanpreet Kaur and revealed that she wanted to offer empathy and reduce the sorrow. “My Intention was to give the captain some empathy because that’s all I can offer from the outside. It was an emotional moment for both of us. It was a player-to-player moment with her. We were just trying to lessen our sorrows by sharing them,” said Anjum.

Going back to the game, Harmanpreet Kaur was suffering from high fever and dehydration as she faced a medical emergency on the eve of the match. But despite these physical constraints, she scored an incredible knock of 54 runs in 37 balls. She also stitched up a counter-attacking partnership with Jemimah Rodrigues which kept India in the hunt for the most part of the game.
