Harmanpreet Kaur, the Mumbai Indians (MI), scored a crucial fifty in the final of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The innings of 66 runs in just 44 balls with nine fours and two sixes from Harmanpreet Kaur resurrected the MI innings after they lost a couple of early wickets in the power play to DC pacer Marizanne Kapp.
After being sent in by Meg Lanning, the captain of DC, the MI batting lineup were in early trouble as Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews lost their wickets early to the South African. Following that, Harmanpreet Kaur shared a valuable partnership of 89 runs for the third wicket with England international Nat Sciver-Brunt, who also got past the 1000-run mark in WPL history, becoming the first batter to achieve the remarkable feat.
During her stand alongside Nat Sciver-Brunt (30 off 28), it was Harmanpreet Kaur, who took the mantle of attacking the DC bowling lineup, striking a few boundaries along with a massive six against Jess Jonassen. She lost her wicket at the start of the 18th over, trying to smash Annabel Sutherland over the deep cover boundary for a maximum, only to find Marizanne Kapp in front of the boundary rope.
At the fall of her wicket, MI had reached 118/6 total, finding themselves behind the eight ball against DC, but the situation could have been much worse without Harmanpreet Kaur’s innings in the WPL 2025 final.
