Indian hockey skipper Harmanpreet Singh shared a light-hearted moment by spending time with a toddler from the stands making it an adorable scene for fans. This happened right after their loss against Germany yesterday at the Major Dhyanchand Stadium, New Delhi. The Paris Olympic Gold medalists lost in the first game against the Germans 2-0 after the visitors were defeated by a goal in the fourth minute and another late in the second quarter. India had numerous opportunities to convert, but their visitors hung on tight to maintain their lead.

Despite the defeat, Harmanpreet made an effort to personally thank the fans and supporters present, including the cute infant. It was a heart-melting moment for fans when the skipper eventually held the baby in his arms for a few seconds before returning it to his parents,

There was less fire upfronts: coach Fulton

Besides Harmanpreet, teammates like Varun Kumar, Sanjay, and Amit Rohidas contributed towards the penalty corner, but all went in vain.

Head coach Craig Fulton admitted that their penalty corner drills were a major failure. “We went on the mock today. There was Varun and Sanjay, but you want Harman to score a few from penalty corners. I want to win badly, don’t like to lose but it is a different phase. It wasn’t too bad but there wasn’t much fire upfront,” Fulton said.

India aims to seek revenge against Germany

Going back to the Paris Olympics this year, Harmanpreet, who has been leading the team since 2022, played a vital role in helping the team win a bronze medal. With 10 goals, he finished as the men's tournament's leading scorer overall. Three of these came from penalty strokes, and seven came from penalty corners, where he is regarded as an expert.

However, this was short-lived when India lost to Germany by a slim margin of 3-2 in the semifinals after a back-and-forth match in which they were unable to capitalize on their chances. They came back to win a bronze medal in the Olympics for the second time in a row by defeating Spain in the third-place match.  The ongoing series will be interesting to watch. After losing their first game, India is taking on Germany. It’s time for Team India to bounce back, with the final match happening on Thursday.
