On Sunday, December 22, in the first ODI of the three-match series, West Indies captain Hayley Matthews was visibly quite frustrated at the on-field umpire after a successful DRS from Harleen Deol of India, to extend her stay at the crease. In the first international cricket match at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, the Indian women’s cricket team are currently taking on West Indies in the one-day international contest after beating them 2-1 in the T20I series just a few days ago.

The incident involving Hayley Matthews happened after Aaliyah Alleyne had trapped Harleen Deol in front of the stumps, following which the on-field umpire Eloise Sheridan gave her out. On review, the technology clearly detected an inside edge of Harleen Deol’s bat before the ball hit her pad, which made the TV umpire ask the on-field umpire to reverse her decision, but Halyley Matthews was seemingly adamant that sound came from the bat hitting the pad.

The West Indies women’s cricket team coach, Shane Deitz, wasn’t pleased with the final decision from the umpires as he headed out of the dressing room to let his voice be heard. Harleen Deol ultimately managed to score 44 off 50 balls with two fours and a maximum, playing a key role in India posting a total in excess of 300 runs on the board against West Indies as Smriti Mandhana top-scored with 91(103), an innings which included 13 fours.
