The 2024 edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League saw a hilarious incident leaving fans and pundits in splits. During the match between the Chepauk Super Gillies and Siechem Madurai Panthers in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, a fan refused to return the match ball and took it home. The match saw a batter slamming a massive six which landed outside the stadium. A local fan who found the ball refused to return it and walked away with it .
The 27th game of the TNPL 2024 saw Madurai Panthers defeating Chepauk Super Gillies by a margin of nine runs. Earlier, Super Gillies won the toss and invited the rivals to bat first, leading the Panthers to put up a score of 191 for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. Suresh Lokeshwar finished as the top scorer with 55 runs off 40 balls, while Jagatheesan Kousik scoring 43* off 24.
In return, Chepauk Super Gillies were restricted to 182/8 with Karthick Manikandan recording figures of 3/23. In a hilarious video posted by Star Sports Tamil, a Chepauk batter pulled a maximum off a right-arm pacer delivery. The shot was so powerful that it landed right outside the stadium, and a local fan was seen picking up the ball. Things took a hilarious turn when the fan refused to give the ball back and on being insisted to do so, he was seen walking away with it.
Notably, the TNPL 2024 league stage concluded with the clash between Dindigul Dragons and Nellai Royal Kings. The teams that qualified for the playoffs stage include Lyca Kovai Kings, IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, Cheapuk Super Gillies and Dindigul Dragons. The final of the tournament is set to be played on August 4 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
