In match 53 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) are hosting the defending champions Chennai Super Kings at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday, May 5. While the CSK are coming in this match with a loss against the same opponent, the PBKS are on a two-match winning streak.
However, earlier in the match, the PBKS skipper Sam Curran won the toss and invited the CSK to put the score on the board. While Ajinkya Rahane departed too early in the inning after scoring only nine runs off seven deliveries, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell steadied the inning, adding odd 32 and 30 runs respectively.
With wickets falling at crucial intervals, the stalwart of the game and former CSK skipper MS Dhoni walked out to bat at number nine. Notably, it was the first time in his T20 career that MS Dhoni had walked out to bat at No. 9, but his stay in the middle was cut short.
Harshal Patel, who was bowling his final over in the 19th over of CSK inning, MS Dhoni walked out after the fourth delivery with the dismissal of Shardul Thakur. But with the HPCA Stadium bursting in MS Dhoni chants, in just a moment of a single ball, things turned around as Dharamsala went in pin-drop silence seeing Dhoni depart on a golden duck.
