Indian men’s hockey team engaged in an on-field altercation with Pakistan team as the sides clashed against each other in the Asian Champions Trophy 2024. The Indian side, under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Singh, was up against their Pakistani counterparts, where they maintained their unbeaten streak and registered a 2-1 win. In the previous match, Singh had reached the milestone of 200 goals. 

With the win over Pakistan, India remained on the top of the points table in the group stage, whereas, it was the first loss for the Men in Green. Both teams, however, have qualified for the semifinal. The match saw Pakistan taking the lead through Ahmad Nadeem in the 8th minute, before Singh, fondly called Sarpanch Sahab by fans, converted two penalty corners in the 13th and 19th minute to give his side a lead.

The thrilling encounter which saw Men in Blue extending their unbeaten streak saw players from both sides engaging in an on-field altercation. The incident took place after a nasty tackle from Pakistan’s Ashraf Waheed Rana against Jugraj Singh, when there were only 10 minutes left on the clock. Jugraj ended up falling after a collision with Rana inside the Indian circle, which led to Harmanpreet and Jarmanpreet Singh quickly rushing and giving back to Rana. 

Both the on-field umpires including Pakistan captain Ammad Butt and other players of both teams intervened to control the situation. The on-field umpire then called for a review and it was concluded that Rana had conducted an offence and was given a yellow card. Pakistan played with 10 players for the final 10 minutes of the match.
