In a recent interview, the captain of India, Rohit Sharma stated that he wants the 90 metre six to be awarded eight runs, while the 100 metre six to be 10 runs when asked about a rule he would like to add in cricket. The leader of the Men in Blue for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 gave examples of Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard, who are known for hitting sixes with big distances in cricket, but still, they get awarded six runs just like him and other cricketers, who have to clear the boundary ropes for the same outcome.
Notably, Rohit Sharma is in the top two of the six-hitting charts across all formats of international cricket, second only to Chris Gayle. The 36-year-old has hit 551 sixes in his career for India, just two behind the West Indies legend. Shahid Afridi of Pakistan is in third place with 476 sixes, while the New Zealand duo of Brendon McCullum (398 sixes) is ahead of Martin Guptill (383 sixes).
Vimal Kumar, one of the well-known journalists in Indian sports, conducted an interview with Rohit Sharma before the captain of Team India was due to reach Guwahati to kick-start their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign at home. When he asked the Nagpur-born cricketer about the one rule he would like to add to make cricket more interesting, his response was along the lines of, “If the batter hits a 90m six, it should be eight runs, if it’s a 100m six, it should be 10 runs.”
Moreover, India will be playing their first warm-up match against England at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium on September 30, Saturday. Then, three days later, they will take on the Netherlands in the second warm-up match of the tournament at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.
