On Saturday, July 13, in the final of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2024, Irfan Pathan of the India Champions shattered the stumps of the Pakistan Champions captain, Younis Khan. The left-arm fast bowler enjoyed the big moment with an insane celebration, which put the India Champions ahead of the game in the first innings.
For the unversed, after winning the toss, Younis Khan, the captain of the Pakistan Champions, elected to bat first on a pitch that is expected to play slowly at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. Anureet Singh picked up the big wicket of Shajeel Khan in the second over, to ensure that the left-handed batter didn’t smash the India Champions attack in the back-to-back WCL 2024 matches.
Kamran Akmal and Shoaib Maqsood were striking the boundaries with relative ease in their short partnership, but Pawan Negi and Vinay Kumar picked up their wickets in the 20s, to keep the India Champions firmly in the contest. After joining Shoaib Malik at the crease, Younis Khan was struggling to rotate the strike, putting pressure on himself to compensate for a slow run rate of the Pakistan Champions with fours and sixes.
Younis Khan tried to smash a boundary across the line against Irfan Pathan, but he missed the ball altogether before it crashed into his stumps. This dismissal was also a stark reminder of Irfan Pathan’s Test hat-trick for India against Pakistan, wherein Younis Khan was dismissed lbw to an in-swinging delivery.
Here is the clip of Irfan Pathan's insane celebration after bowling out Younis Khan:
As of this writing, the Pakistan Champions are 80/4 in 12 overs against the India Champions with Shoaib Malik at the crease alongside Misbah-ul-Haq.
