After a lot of drama and heated exchange in the Melbourne Test, things continued to heat up between the top two quality cricketing sides on the opening day of the fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Earlier in the match, Jasprit Bumrah won the toss and elected to bat first.

However, the side did not have a great day with the bat as the Australian bowlers restricted India to below 200 with Scott Boland picking a four-fer. Rishabh Pant was the top-scorer, playing a fighting knock of 40 off 98 deliveries along with sustaining several body blows. But as the day was nearing a close, India’s stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah was seen getting into a heated exchange with Australian youngster Sam Konstas.

The incident occurred in the third over of the Australian first innings with Usman Khawaja and Sam Konstas in the middle. With Bumrah coming in to bowl the fifth delivery of the over, Khawaja, who was on strike just delayed, leading to Sam Konstas get in with some words. Just at that moment, Konstas told Bumrah to stop with the latter replying, “What’s the problem?”

The two players approached each other in a confrontation before on-field umpire quickly stepped in to diffuse the situation and separate the two. However, Jasprit Bumrah had the final word as on the very next delivery, he dismissed Usman Khawaja with a full-length ball that induced an outside edge with KL Rahul taking a clean catch in the slips.

Rather than celebrating the much-needed breakthrough, Bumrah turned to Konstas and delivered a cold stare, adding to the energising atmosphere at the SCG, video of which is making rounds on social media.

Speaking of the fifth Test, Australia added nine runs at the loss of one wicket at the close of day one. With Sam Konstas in the middle at 7 off 8 deliveries, Australia trail by 176 runs at Stumps on Day 1.
