India’s stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah was engaged in an heated altercation with Australia’s 19-year-old Sam Konstas during the final moments of day one of the ongoing fifth Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Known for his calm behaviour, Bumrah lost his cool when Konstas instigated him. After that, the Indian captain dismissed Usman Khawaja on the final ball of day one, and was seen celebrating by looking Konstas dead in the eye.
However, in his latest interview with Forbes India, which was releasef after Sam Konstas' incident, Jasprit Bumrah said that he is aggressive, but he doesn’t go and abuse the batter while bowling. “I am aggressive; it’s just that I don’t need to go and abuse the batsman, because when I was a kid, I saw the bowlers on the television screaming and shouting and going head-to-head. When I tried it, I became too aggressive; when I tried to play in club cricket, it didn’t work in my favour,” Jasprit Bumrah was quoted as saying in the video.
People don’t know what’s going on in my head: Jasprit Bumrah
Speaking further, Jasprit Bumrah also said that being calm helps him to make better decisions as people don’t know what goes inside his head. The fast bowler took two wickets in the first innings as Australia were bowled out for 181 runs. However, Bumrah had to leave the field in between due to a back problem. Later, the fast bowler was diagnosed with back spasms, and he is yet to take decision on bowling in the second innings.
“When I realised that I go overboard, to control that I consciously worked on it. When I’m nice and calm and relaxed, people don’t know what’s going on in my head, so that gives me a mental advantage. That helps me to stay calm and make better decisions,” Bumrah said.
