NBA star Jimmy Butler, who made his debut as ball boy in the US Open 2023 on Wednesday, August 23, ‘defeated’ Carlos Alcaraz. The Miami Heat star took down the World Number 1 tennis player and US Open Champion while they jokingly played a point. The incident took place when World Number 1 Alcaraz was taking on World Number 10 Frances Tiafoe, where Butler was serving as a ball boy.
In the US Open Charity Event 2023, ‘Stars of the Open', organised for humanitarian relief in Ukraine, Butler played along with Alcaraz, American tennis star Frances Tiafoe and singer Sebastián Yatra. Not only this, but the 33-year-old also teamed up with the French tennis star to lock horns with Alcaraz-Yatra.
After the Miami star walked out as a ball boy, he and the Spaniard played out a point, where the 20-year-old tennis star mockingly grunted while playing out a rally. While Alcaraz clearly played it easy against Butler, the NBA superstar hit a forehand hit.
The ‘Stars of the Open’ event raised a whopping sum of USD 320K on Wednesday night. Other exhibitions of the event at the US Open feature many big names, with the likes of John McEnroe, Gabriela Sabatini, Jessica Pegula, Matteo Berrettini, Elena Svitolina, Gael Monfils, Chris Eubanks and Jennifer Brady.
