While Suryakumar Yadav smashed his record-tying fourth T20I century, Jitesh Sharma unfortunately hit the stumps with his foot on the penultimate delivery of the Indian innings.

In the do-or-die match, Team India opened the innings on a high note as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill began their innings at full throttle. However, South Africa skipper Aiden Markram's wise call of bringing spinner Keshav Maharaj in the third over proved fruitful as he picked up two wickets in back-to-back deliveries. Maharj dismissed Gill on 8 runs while Tilak Varma lost his wickets on a golden duck.

However, Yashsvi and skipper Suryakumar Yadav took control and combined for a 112-run partnership. However, an unfortunate incident occurred on the fifth ball of the last over, which forced Indian wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma to move back to the pavilion after playing just four balls. Jitesh went deep into the crease to loft, what looked like, the yorker, but hit the stumps with the back of his feet.
