The future of Joao Felix at Atletico Madrid has reportedly been further questioned after the forward had 'tense' discussions with club officials. The Portuguese international played 20 times in all competitions while on loan with Premier League powerhouse Chelsea during the second half of the previous season.
Despite a generally positive experience for the Portuguese personally, the Blues decided against trying to sign him to a long-term contract. But his stay in London now appears to have threatened his position on the Spanish side. Atletico Madrid's preseason training camp saw some of the 23-year-old’s first-day training with the young team. The PSG-linked attacker was relegated to an academy rondo with Renan Lodi as manager Diego Simeone oversaw a tactical exercise with other senior players.
The forward hasn’t had many reasons to stay happy, as he was denied a permanent contract by Chelsea, after which his No.7 jersey at Atletico was given to Antoine Griezmamn and the final nail in the coffin was making him train with the academy. He looked visibly irritated as he took off his jersey and threw it on the ground angrily.

Felix played in 16 Premier League games and scored four goals, however, he was unable to halt Chelsea's decline. Although it was widely expected that this summer's move would become permanent, Mauricio Pochettino's team already strengthened their assault, and it was revealed that Chelsea were pursuing other targets.
Nicolas Jackson has joined in a £32 million move from Villarreal, and they have also officially announced the acquisition of Christopher Nkunku for $52 million from RB Leipzig.
