On Tuesday, June 25, Afghanistan registered an eight-run win against Bangladesh at the Arnos Vale Cricket Stadium in St Vincent in T20 World Cup 2024. With this win, the Rashid Khan-led side progressed into the semifinals, beating the likes of Australia and New Zealand in the ongoing tournament.
The final Super 8 match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh was nothing short of an entertainer. The match 52 of the T20 World Cup 2024, which was marred with rain at frequent intervals, eventually saw getting reduced to 19 overs. After opting to bat first, the Rashid Khan-led side put 115 runs on the board with opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz scoring a 55-ball 43. Later, expect of Litton Das, who scored a 49-ball 54, none of the Bangladesh batters stood up to the occasion and were eventually bundled out at the score of 105 in 17.5 overs.
The match, which was marred with several action, in one of the instances, Afghanistan coach, Jonathan Trott was also seen getting angry as he even kicked a dustbin in the dressing room. The incident took place in the eighth over of the inning when Mohammad Nabi created an outside chance. On the third ball of Nabi’s over, Fazalhaq Farooqi, who was stationed in the deep dropped a difficult catch, handing a lifeline to Towhid Hridoy. Later the batter hit consecutive boundaries, and this made Trott take out his frustration on the dustbin.

Although, the Afghan bowlers, especially Rashid Khan and Naveen-ul-Haq stepped up and scalped four wickets apiece to help the side register a convincing win. Moreover, Afghanistan now has most win in a T20 World Cup edition, surpassing their four wins, which came in the 2016 edition of the tournament.
