South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada pulled off an outstanding diving catch to dismiss Virat Kohli and clinch the 1st Test by 32 runs and an inning. Playing at the SuperSport Park in Centurion, Dean Elgar's magical 185 set up the Test for South Africa before the fast bowlers ran through the Indian batting lineup and bundled them out at 131.

The final wicket of the second Indian innings was courtesy of all-rounder Marco Jansen, who scored an invaluable 84 in 137 balls to give South Africa the 162-run lead. Jansen sent out a back-of-length straight delivery which Virat Kohli tried to hit by charging down the track. But with the Indian number four mistiming his slog, Kagiso Rabada ran in from long-on to put a superman-like dive to complete a stunning catch.

As the final Indian wicket fell, South Africa registered a dominant win for which Proteas' stand-in captain Dean Elgar was named the Player of the Match. Elgar, playing his farewell Test series, scored a fighting 185 in 277 balls with 28 fours to help the Rainbow Nation attain a fighting first-inning lead.
Talking about this performance, Dean Elgar said, "Pretty special knock. Sometimes what we want to do hasn't worked out as plans, but happy that it worked today. I think you need to keep things nice and simple, the game is already pretty complex. Focus on the ball, play nice and straight. Play late and be great. You got to ride the roller when it is in your favour. Good partnerships with Tony, and then Jansen showed his talent as well. You need fast bowlers and a spinner potentially to take 20 wickets, that's how we win Test matches."
