The former New Zealand Test captain, Kane Williamson, who made his last competitive appearance in IPL 2023, was spotted playing cricket with his daughter in a cute video on social media. It was at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 31 of this year, when the 32-year-old cricketer suffered a severe anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in his knee, while turning up for the Gujarat Titans against the Chennai Super Kings.

Since then, Kane Williamson has undergone surgery on his right knee and began rehabilitation at home, which is ongoing currently. The timetable for a potential return to international cricket for the Kiwi batter is unknown, but he will be looking to play the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, scheduled to be held in India this October and November, in all likelihood.

Notably, on July 4, Tuesday, Williamson shared a clip on his Instagram account, in which his daughter was seen throwing a sponge ball towards his dad, who gently patted it towards her with the bat. He captioned the post, “First competitive game game back! Nice to have @graynicolls_ausnz back in hand”.

The Tauranga-born star had recently talked about making progress after undergoing surgery, while keeping his options open about a potential return to cricket. He said, “I’m just trying to keep it week-to-week at the moment. I’m making progress, but I’m not putting a timeline on anything. I haven’t had such a long-term injury before but talking to other people that have, the journey is a bit of a long one so if you look too far ahead it can probably become a little bit daunting.”

“Whereas, one week at a time, ticking off those small markers, those little wins that are nice to experience. But also knowing that the journey won’t be completely smooth and you have a few setbacks along the way that you have to navigate,” Kane Williamson further added.
