In the second match of the IPL 2024 double-header Sunday (May 12), the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are hosting the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This match serves as a crucial one for both these sides, who are eyeing a playoffs berth.
But with Rishabh Pant’s absence after he was given a one-match ban, all-rounder Axar Patel is leading the side. Earlier in the match, it was stand-in captain Axar Patel who won the toss and invited RCB to bat first. The DC bowlers restricted the hosts to 187 in the stipulated 20 overs.
In pursuit of the 188-run target, DC had a forgettable start with their openers, along with impact substitute in David Warner also departing early. While Warner was dismissed at 1, Jake Fraser-McGurk scored 21 runs. DC got another jolt in Shai Hope’s wicket at a crucial juncture of the game, courtesy a brilliant catch by Karn Sharma.
Hope mistimed the ball bowled by Lockie Ferguson in the tenth over of the DC inning. Sharma, who was stationed at deep mid-wicket, came up sprinting in to his left and plucked on to a well-timed catch. The Indian pacer just got hold of the ball out of thin air and in the process, escaped a massive collision with Swapnil Singh, who ran from long-on.
Watch Karn Sharma’s brilliant catch to dismiss Shai Hope:
The Delhi Capitals are currently placed fifth the IPL 2024 standings, while the Bengaluru-based franchise are seventh. A win for DC will get them closer to the playoffs battle, equalling points with CSK and SRH, while a win for RCB will make them match their points with DC and LSG.
