British wildcard entrant to the Wimbledon 2022, Katie Boulter, produced a brilliant second round win. Boulter defeated Wimbledon 2021 finalist Karolina Pliskova on Thursday. The 25-year-old came from a set down to beat the Czech player 3-6,7-6 (7/4), 6-4 at the Centre Court.
After this brilliant performance, the emotional Katie Boulter dedicated her win to her late grandmother, who passed away this week. “I have absolutely no words right now”, said Katie. “I’m probably going to getting emotional. My grandmother died two days ago so I’d like to dedicate that to her today,” she added.

Adding further, Katie Boulter revealed that she had learned of her grandmother’s demise after her first match on Tuesday. “I actually had a phone call from my grandpa the night before I played. He didn’t mention anything, but he kind of gave me the inkling that it might be coming,” she said.
“I didn’t know anything until after my first match where my mum basically pulled me aside and told me”, she further added.
With this win, Katie Boulter broke new ground record at Wimbledon 2022. This is the first time she has beaten a player from the top 40. Previously her total record against top 50 opposition was 4-14, but this finally came to an end.
Pliskova lost to Boulter last week in the recently concluded Eastbourne event. The 25-year-old Katie Boulter will now face Harmony Tan, who defeated Serena Williams in the opening week of the Wimbledon 2022.
