Following a 93-run stand for the first wicket between Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das, Bangladesh failed to build up a decent partnership as Indian bowlers dominated the middle overs. After opener Tanzid (51) and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto's (8) departures, Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul took a giant leap on his left to dismiss all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz on Mohammed Siraj's delivery.

On the first ball of the 25th over, Siraj bowled a back-of-length delivery down the leg side that found the edge of Hasan's bat and KL Rahul did a brilliant job behind the stumps. KL Rahul dived to his left to take a one-handed stunner to pick the third wicket for India.

Bangladesh were 129 for 3 after 24.1 overs as opener Litton Das continued on 63. With their 93-run stand for the first wicket, Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das have recorded the highest opening partnership for Bangladesh in the World Cup. The p revious highest first-wicket partnership was between Mehrab Hossain and Shahriar Hossain - 69 vs Pakistan in the 1999 World Cup.
