LeBron James and his son, Bronny James, made NBA history by becoming the first father and son duo to play together during a preseason game for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Phoenix Suns at the Acrisure Arena in Coachella Valley on Sunday night, October 6. Notably, this is the first-time in the NBA that a father and son have taken to a court simultaneously, let alone playing for the same team.

In the beginning of the second quarter, Bronny James entered the game to a rousing reception from the fans in attendance at the Acrisure Arena in Coachella Valley when his father, LeBron James, was on court. The start to the game for the 20-year-old wasn’t quite good with him committing two turnovers before he missed a three-point attempt when LeBron James set a screen for him.

Bronny James was on NBA court for just four minutes alongside his father LeBron James

With that, Bronny James, who had scored two points against Minnesota Timberwolves after playing for 16 minutes in the first preseason game, was substituted by head coach JJ Redick in just four minutes against the Phoenix Suns before his father followed suit. Although this father-son moment on the NBA court is something LeBron James had long hoped for in his life, the entire family was working towards making this dream a reality for him, and after it went down, he took to his official X account to write, “WOW THAT WAS SURREAL!!”

The special moment also coincided with the 20th birthday of Bronny James, but at the end of the night, he and his father weren’t able to stop the Phoenix Suns from defeating the Los Angeles Lakers 118-114. Despite the defeat in the latest preseason game, the Lakers will be looking forward to winning the record-equalling 18th NBA championship during the 22nd season in the big time for LeBron James.
