Lionel Messi played his last game for Paris Saint-Germain which ended in a defeat to Clermont 3-2 on Saturday. The club had confirmed his departure from the club after a successful two-year duration, shortly before the Ligue 1 final game. However, as the team celebrated the title win with a lap of honour, the Argentinian World Cup winner went directly to the locker room.
Notably, some PSG supporters booed Messi when the Parc des Princes announcer read his name. After the match, Messi said, "I would like to thank the club, the city of Paris, and its people for these two years. I wish you all the best for the future."

Messi failed to score as PSG went down 2-3 against Clermont after Sergio Ramos’s header in the 16th and Kylian Mbappe's in the 21st gave the home side a 2-0 lead. In a video that has been going viral across social media, Messi could be seen walking into the dressing room while the entire Paris Saint-Germain celebrated the win with a lap of honour.

I n his two years at PSG, Messi won two French leagues and the French Champions Trophy and scored 32 goals as well as 35 assists in all competitions. Messi didn’t sign the contract extension offered by the club and is linked with a move to a Saudi club. After the final whistle in the Saturday game, Messi hugged all the PSG players and shook hands with the Clermont players. Though PSG ended up lifting the championship trophy after the game, they ended the season with seven league defeats, all of which came in 2023.
