The crowd at Wembley Stadium erupted in joy as Manchester United took down arch-rivals Manchester City to win the FA Cup 2024. United beat City with a scoreline of 2-1 to win its 13th FA Cup title after eight years on May 25, Saturday. The game saw United coming on the back of an eighth-place finish in the Premier League, whereas City aimed for their second trophy in a week after the side won the Premier League on the final day of the season.
Manchester United youngsters Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo scored goals for the side in the 30th and 39th minutes of the game, respectively. With this, they also became the first two teenagers to score in the same FA Cup final. Needless to say, the Red Devils headed into the game as major underdogs but stunned their counterparts by scoring twice in the first half.
City’s Jeremy Doku also came up with a goal but it ended with United winning it 2-1 to finish the season on a victorious note. Just after the side won the cup, United boss Erik ten Hag ran onto the pitch to celebrate with the side. United defender Lisandro Martinez came from behind and lifted Hag in joy. Notably, the United boss is at the risk of being sacked immediately.
After the win, United goal scorer Garnacho told BBC, “It’s an incredible feeling because nobody believes in us. We are a team, we are all together with these incredible fans and it is a special moment for us.” Kobbie Mainoo also expressed his happiness and said, “It’s been a tough season of ups and downs and recently the only thing we’ve had to look forward to is this final. Last year I was in the stands watching because I wasn’t involved so it’s incredible for me today.”
