Lungi Ngidi took a magnificent stunner to get rid of Jamie Overton in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 game against England in Karachi. At the toss, England captain Jos Buttler emerged victorious and elected to bat first. Phil Salt, who has failed to be impactful in this competition, ended his tournament after scoring only eight in this game. Jamie Smith followed the opener as Marco Jansen continued his attack on the 2019 World Cup Champions and handed the second breakthrough to his team. Except for Joe Root, no batter has amassed courage to face South Africa’s disciplined bowling valiantly.

In the 26th over of England innings, Jamie Overton was in the middle with his skipper Jos Buttler. On the third delivery of the over, Kagiso Rabada bowled a fuller length, which was smacked by Overton in the air. Ngidi, who was deployed at the mid-on area, ran backwards and sealed a diving screamer to send Overton back to the pavilion. The 30-year-old’s innings ended after scoring only 11 off 20.

South Africa high on confidence after being unbeaten in CT 2025 thus far

South Africa are looking solid in the match as they have kept England on the backfoot. Marco Jansen wreaked havoc on Jos Buttler and his men and decimated England’s top-order. The speedster got the better of Salt, Smith, and Ben Duckett to hand momentum to his team.

Along with top-order batters, England’s key players Harry Brook (19 off 29) and Liam Livingstone (nine off 15) also looked miserable with their bats as both fell to Keshav Maharaj.  As of writing, England have amassed 159/7 in 31.5 overs. Buttler (unbeaten 18 off 33) and Jofra Archer (18 off 21) are at the crease.
