Former South Africa fast bowler Makhaya Ntini met Ravichandran Ashwin during the recently-concluded multi-format series. Ntini was a part of the Chennai Super Kings squad during the 2008 season, where the represented the Yellow Army in nine matches. India toured South Africa for a multi-format series, consisting of 3 T20Is, and 3 ODIs followed by two Test matches. After the T20I series concluded in a 1-1 draw, the Men in Blue went on to win the ODI series 2-1. 

In the Test series, the Proteas recorded a massive win in the first game. However, the Rohit Sharma-led squad bounced back in the second and defeated the home favourites in the shortest game in Test history. During the match, Indian spinning wizard, Ashwin engaged in a light-hearted conversation with the former CSK player Makhaya Ntini. Ntini was a part of the broadcasting team for SuperSport.

The 37-year-old jokingly asked Ntini to greet the Chennai fans, to which the latter replied unexpectedly by singing a Hindi song. Ashwin told Ntini, “That’s for the CSK fans; you can say hello to them.” In return, Ntini sang the famous Hindi song ‘Kabhi kabhi mere dil mei’. The way the South African sang the song, cracked up Ashwin and he couldn’t control his laughter. 

Ashwin, currently the top-seeded Test bowler is in the race for the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year award for 2023. The Chennai-born is the only Indian contender among the four nominees. Apart from Ashwin, Usman Khawaja, Travis Head, and Joe Root are on the list. The Indian spinner picked 41 wickets in seven Test matches in 2023, while delivering a notable performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he ended up claiming 35 wickets from four matches.
