Bayern Munich once again gained popularity on social media as one of their players chose Lionel Messi among the list of ‘retired’ players. There is no doubt in the fact that Argentina skipper Lionel Messi is one of the greatest names to have played the game. Messi enjoys a huge fan following and many names, including the rival players, have desired to share the field with the Argentine great. The same is the scene with the Dutch defender Matthijs De Ligt; however, the player seemed to forget that Messi is still an active player.
Bayern Munich posted a video on their social media recently, where the players were asked to name one retired football legend they would like to share the field with. While a few players named football greats such as Ronaldinho and Zidane as their dream component, what caught everyone’s attention was that Matthijs De Ligt chose Messi, who is still an active player.

In the video posted by the football club, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting could be seen choosing Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldinho, while Joshua Kimmich went ahead with Zidane. Not only this, but the video also featured Leon Goretzka, who picked Franz Beckanbauer while Jamal Musiala, and Leroy Sane both named the football legend Ronaldinho while Serge Gnabry’s choice was Zidane.
What came as a surprise for everyone is that Matthijs de Ligt picked Lionel Messi, who plays for the Argentina national team as well as Inter Miami. While some consider this as the defender’s honest mistake, many think that by taking the 2022 World Cup-winning captain’s name, Ligt took a sly dig at him. Notably, both Argentina and the Netherlands engaged in a brawl in the last FIFA World Cup.
