Max Verstappen, the reigning two-time F1 champion, got pole position in an emphatic fashion at the Spanish GP on June 3. On Sunday, the Dutchman will be looking to secure his third victory at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, first of which came in his opening drive in a Red Bull Racing car in 2016.

After attaining pole position, the 25-year-old spoke at a press conference, wherein he categorically mentioned that the Spanish GP qualifying result for himself is what he expected it to be. But what he didn’t expect was Lando Norris getting third place. But then, he quickly changed his statement by stating that he didn’t expect McLaren to get on the second row of the grid, while regarding the Briton’s driving skills as high quality.

Verstappen was quoted as saying to the reporters, “I’m where I expected to be going into this weekend. I mean to be honest, I also expected Carlos to be there. I just did not expect Lando to be there, but that is a good surprise. Well, sorry! I did not expect McLaren to be up there. Sorry, I have to rephrase. I always expect Lando to be high up.”

Meanwhile, Lando Norris described his third place in the McLaren at the Spanish qualifying as unexpected. The British driver was quoted as saying, “We weren’t expected to be so good today.” When the 23-year-old was asked about his target for the race on Sunday, he said in a hilarious manner, “Just hold on for dear life.” He further talked about finishing in the top 10 when it’s all said and done at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Even while Lando Norris finished in the top three in qualifying, his fellow teammate, the Australian driver Oscar Piastri could only manage to get ninth place on the grid for the Spanish GP on Sunday.
