In the third Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match, Mayank Markande took a brilliant diving catch for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, to dismiss Ramandeep Singh of the Kolkata Knight Riders, who was hitting the ball crisply. It was the first wicket for the newly appointed captain Pat Cummins in the SRH colours, reducing KKR to 105/5.

The first ball of the 13th over from Pat Cummins was a rising delivery off the good length, which Ramandeep Singh tried to drive on the up, but it hit the higher part of his bat. The lack of control on the stroke from the right-handed batter led to the ball spooned up in the air towards the cover region, where Mayank Markande flew across to his right perpendicularly to complete the catch.

The brisk innings of 35 off 17 from Ramandeep Singh had four maximums and one four, resurrecting the KKR innings, which was 51/4 in the eighth over at one stage.

In the next over, Phil Salt, who had just completed his first fifty for Kolkata Knight Riders, found Marco Jansen at the deep mid-wicket boundary. The innings from the English international had three fours and three maximums.

It led to Andre Russell joining Rinku Singh in the middle with the scorecard for KKR reading 119/6 in 13.5 overs. Both these power hitters will be needing to stay at the crease together for a brief period, while accelerating the rate of scoring, to ensure that they put a competitive total on the board for SRH to chase down.
