The five-time champions Australia are taking on Sri Lanka in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 in Match 14 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. While the Sri Lanka side are without their regular skipper in Dasun Shanaka, who stands ruled out with thigh injury, wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis have taken the charge an interim skipper.

In the ongoing match, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first. Started the inning, the first over saw a bizarre incident. On the fourth delivery of the first over, being bowled by Mitchell Starc, Kusal Perera who was at the non-striker’s end was warned by Starc.
As Starc pulled his run up and was just about to release the ball, he looked at Perera and stopped, giving a chirpy warning to the batter.

Starc again pulled from his followthrough in the fifth over of the Sri Lanka innings citing that he was distracted by Kusal Perera. While Starc gave a fiery look to the non-striker batter, but did not issue an official warning at this moment.
In another incident, Nissanka chipped in to fine with Marcus Stoinis dragging himself trying to save the boundary, but eventually failed. In this process, the Australian all-rounder was seen sliding a saw his lower pull down.
However, Stoinis was quick to put them back in place as he got up to throw the ball back to the fielder.
