Pakistan’s One-Day International (ODI) captain Mohammad Rizwan is upset with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after the latter took some tough stance against him and his colleague Babar Azam following the Green Army’s forgettable Champions Trophy 2025 campaign at home. After Pakistan’s early exit from the marquee International Cricket Council (ICC) event, Rizwan and Babar were left out from Pakistan’s team that toured New Zealand for five T20 Internationals (T20I). In Rizwan’s absence, Salman Ali Agha was handed the reins of the T20I side and the Men in Green lost the competition by a margin of 1-4.
As per Telecom Asia Sport, a PCB official revealed Rizwan was infuriated with the board after the 33-year-old and Babar were dropped from the T20I team that clashed with the Kiwis in March. Amidst these developments, both eminent players have sought a meeting with PCB chief Moshin Naqvi. After Pakistan’s whitewash at the hands of New Zealand in the recently-concluded three-match ODI series, Rizwan appeared in a press conference and looked frustrated while talking about the team selection. He said, “Sab ko pata hai kya ho raha hai. Har koi uss cheez k liye responsible hai jiski authority hai.” According to the report from Telecom Asia Sport, Rizwan is seeking more power as skipper or else he will resign from the leadership role.
Mohammad Rizwan to captain Multan Sultans in PSL 2025
After the New Zealand tour, Pakistan players will be serving their Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 teams from April 11 to May 18. Rizwan will be captaining Multan Sultans in the marquee T20 event. In 2021, Sultans won their maiden title under Rizwan’s captaincy after beating Peshawar Zalmi in the final of the edition.
Sultans will kick off their PSL 2025 campaign against Karachi Kings on April 12, at the National Bank Stadium. Karachi will be led by former Australia opener David Warner. This is the first instance when PSL and the Indian Premier League (IPL) schedules are colliding with each other.
