Pakistan wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan refused to shake hands with the female members of Glenn McGrath’s family. The incident took place during the recently concluded Pink Test, where the Baggy Greens hosted the Pakistan team at the Syndey Cricket Ground. The iconic Pink Test was organised by the McGrath Foundation to spread awareness about breast cancer. The foundation laid by the Australian bowling legend encourages fans to wear pink on Day 3 of the year’s first Test.
The foundation was laid by McGrath’s wife Jane, who passed away battling the disease in 2008. The motto of the foundation is to have more nurses to support breast cancer patients. During the final Test between Australia and Pakistan, the Men in Green were seen greeting with the female members of McGrath’s family. While other members shook hands with the family members, Rizwan avoided doing so and preferred clapping to show respect.
Pakistan, who were hoping to win a Test on Australian soil for the first time in 29 years, failed to do so. The Pat Cummins side ended up with a 3-0 whitewash on home soil. In the final game of the series, the Khan Masood side failed to defend the 130-run target and lost the match by eight wickets.
The final match of the Test series also saw Australian opener David Warner calling it quits on his Test career. Warner scored 34 runs in the first innings and went on to score 57 runs in the second innings as Australia chased the 130-run target comfortably with eight wickets remaining. Ahead of the SCG Test, Warner also announced his retirement from ODI cricket after winning the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India, where he was the leading scorer for his side.
