Despite this opportunity, Rohit Sharma couldn't build on the dropped catch as he got out moments later at a score of just one run in 10 balls. Further, the Mumbai Indians' struggles continued as they lost wickets at regular intervals. But  Tilak Varma continued to hold one end for the Mumbai Indians and took their total to 171 at the end of 20 overs.

The 20-year-old scored 84 runs in 46 balls and smashed nine fours and four sixes.  Reacting to this performance Varma expressed that his plan was to settle in and then increase the scoring rate as the innings progresses  in the mid-innings interview.

He said,  "My plan was to adjust to the wicket and see how it was doing. It was holding a bit. So, I took my time initially and then see how it goes. My mindset was positive and I was constantly talking to my partners and asking them what a good score would be"
