Reliance Foundation Founder-Chairperson Nita Ambani has backed India’s bid to host Olympics 2036 while addressing the annual India Conference on Indian Business, Policy & Culture at the Harvard University. She also added that hosting the distinguished sporting event would be a matter of pride for the nation. She also highlighted India’s economic development and the requirement to address anomaly which shows nine of the ten largest economies in the world have organised the event while India has only been deprived of the opportunity.

“I believe India must host the Olympics. As we are set to become the third-largest economy globally, it’s surprising that, of the ten largest economies, only India has not hosted the Games. If we win the bid, I assure you that it will be the greenest Olympics ever,” said Mrs Ambani at an event in Boston.

Nita Ambani reiterates Prime Minister Modi’s statement

Ambani’s remark is similar to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that India will bid for the 2036 Olympics. The host city is yet to be decided but Ahmedabad’s Sardar Patel Sporting Complex might be seen hosting the greatest event.

Back in January 2025, Modi attended the opening ceremony of the 38th National Games and spoke about the perks of hosting the Olympics. Addressing the crowd as a special guest, he said, "We are pushing for hosting rights of 2036 Olympics, it will take Indian sports to new heights. Olympics is not just a sporting event. Wherever Olympics happen, all sectors gain. It creates better facilities for athletes. It spurs construction, creates new connectivity, transport facilities and most important of all, boosts tourism."

India has achieved some magnificent success in the sports domain. Talking about hosting extraordinary sporting tournaments, Commonwealth Games 2010 and ICC World Cup 2023 make the country’s claim strong to win the bid for the Olympics 2036.
