After winning his third round men’s singles match at the Australian Open, Novak Djokovic spoke with Sania Mirza in an exclusive interview on Sony Sports Network about India and tennis. The 24-time Grand Slam champion from Serbia remarked that he hopes to work together with Sania Mirza on the mission to grow the sport in India.
The Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne Park saw Novak Djokovic get the better of the Argentine opponent Tom Martin Etcheverry in straight sets by 6-3, 6-3, 7-6(2). In this one-sided contest, the Serbian won 49 out of 57 points on his first serve, while hitting 10 aces, and not facing a break point at all.

Shortly after his emphatic victory in the third round of the Australian Open, Novak Djokovic spoke to Sania Mirza about how he wants to explore the “beautiful country” of India before stating his intention to be a part of some tennis programs for children there. The 38-year-old reiterated the mission of the Novak Djokovic Foundation wherein he wants to deliver early childhood education in Serbia, which is something he, his wife, and the family are passionate about.
The 10-time Australian Open champion also said, “I wish to be part of some tennis related program, no doubt about that, let’s see, you know, what future brings. But I would love to see more children grabbing a tennis racket and playing tennis. Obviously that’s something that as a tennis player would fill my heart with joy.”
