India’s long-distance runner Parul Chaudhary clinched gold for India in the final of the Women’s 3000m steeplechase event at the ongoing Asian Athletics Championships 2023. Parul clocked 9.38.76 minutes to achieve the top prize for India in the 25th edition of the Championships at the Supachalasai National Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
India’s ace runner Chaudhary broke the women’s 5000m national record in a meet in Los Angeles last month, where she clocked 9.41.88 to record her first title of the season. Not only this but by the end of the last month, Parul clinched another title as she won the women’s 3000m steeplechase event at the Track Night NYC 2023 athletics meet in New York.
In the coming tournaments, Parul will represent India at the World Athletics Championships to be held in Budapest as well as Asian Games, which will be held in Hangzhou, later this year.
The 28-year-old Indian athlete has recently been involved in “high-altitude training” at the athletics base in Colorado Springs, USA, which is situated at an altitude of 1800m above sea level.
Tajinderpal Singh Toor defends Asian Title but limps out of competition
Indian shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor defended his Asian Athletics Championships title on Friday, July 14. Toor became the third Indian to defend the Asian Championship title after he threw the shot put to a distance of 20.23 m in his second throw.
However, the 28-year-old limped out of the competition after an injury and passed his last four throws, but still managed to win the top medal. Iran’s Saberi Mehdi clinched silver after throwing the iron ball to a distance of 19.98m, whereas Kazakhstan's Ivan Ivanov took bronze after throwing the shot put at 19.87m.
