The international rivalry between England and Australia, Ashes series is underway in England. The first Test of the series saw players stand up at various stages of the match as the Test champion Australia took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The first Test, which had a possibility of three results till the final day’s play, saw Australia come out on top in a nail-biter.
A brilliant partnership between Australia skipper Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon saw them chase a target of 281 runs. After hitting the winning runs for his side, the Aussie skipper could not contain his emotions and threw his bat and helmet in celebration after this win, which was also his first in Ashes as captain of the pack.

Talking about the first Ashes Test, Ben Stokes-led England opted to bat after winning the toss. The side posted 393 at the loss of eight wickets, before Stokes declared the inning on Day 1 itself. The Aussies then stood firm on the back of Usman Khawaja’s brilliant century knock in England, which also was his first in the country to finish, trailing by seven runs.
The Stokes-led side then added 273 runs in third inning to put a considerable lead, with Cummins and Nathan Lyon shining with the ball, scalping four wickets each. With all results possible on Day 5, the Aussies played a firm inning to win the match by two wickets. Usman Khawaja was awarded as the Player of the Match. This win was also the 15 th successful run-chase of 275 or more in Tests in England.
