The Sri Lankan team got off to an incredible start against England in their final Super 12 fixture despite losing two wickets. Pathum Nissanka has been a key architect of this splendid start. But on the third ball of the ninth over, something unfortunate happened to the Sri Lanka opener.

Batting at 45, Nissanka ran towards the striker's end as Charith Asalanka called for a single. But in the middle of the pitch, a collision took place between the two batters. Nissanka looked injured as the physio rushed to the middle to check on him.

The Sri Lankans, in a way, started losing momentum from this point forward as they only added 64 more runs to their tally. But Nissanka continued his good form and ended up with a score of 67 in 45 balls with two fours and five sixes. Whereas other Lankan batters failed to find their feet and stitch up a big inning supporting Nissanka.

The Island nation had only two batters other than  Pathum Nissanka reaching double figures.  Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored 22 runs in 22 balls whereas fellow opener  Kusal Mendis put up 18 in 14 balls. If one takes away the contribution of these three batters, the other Sri Lankans combined to score 29 runs.

Whereas for England,  Mark Wood was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up three wickets while giving away 26 runs in his four overs. Leg spinner  Adil Rashid also had an incredible bowling display as he gave only 16 runs while picking up one wicket.
