India all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar produced a brilliant in-swing delivery in the second over of the game to dismiss Ellyse Perry in the one-off Test between India and Australia. The Australia women's team is touring India for a multi-format series, which kicked off with a one-off Test on December 21, Thursday. After the Test, both sides will clash in a three-match ODI series, followed by a three-match T20I series. The Test match began with Australia skipper Alyssa Healy winning the toss and inviting her side to put score on the board first.
India got off to a dreamy start as the hosts went on to pick two wickets in the first two overs. After Renuka Singh compelled Phoebe Litchfield to walk back to the hut, Vastrakar got rid of Perry in the second over. The 24-year-old all-rounder bowled a perfect inswing which hit Perry’s middle stumps and the Aussie was compelled to walk back after scoring just four runs in two deliveries.
Later in the game, Beth Mooney and Tahlia McGrath played decently, raising guests’ hopes in the game. However, McGrath was dismissed after scoring 50 runs, while Mooney was forced to walk back after her 94-ball 40. By the end of 45 overs, Australia had scored 143 runs with the loss of four wickets. Before the toss, Aussie skipper Alyssa Healy said that she feels that holding the team's captaincy is a big responsibility.
Healy said, "It is unbelievably huge shoes to fill in the sense of replacing Meg Lanning. I think the success she had not only as a player but also the leader of the Australian cricket team is fairly unmatched in the men's and the women's game. Big shoes to fill in my part but it is a challenge that's really exciting to me. My approach to it is about taking this group on the next chapter."
